Widener gave its best, but saw its 2009 season come to an end with a 0-0 Commonwealth Conference draw at Albright.
In a winner-take-all game for the final conference tournament berth, Widener (13-4-3, 3-3-1 CC) was on the attack and it showed with an 8-2 shots edge during regulation.
But needing only a tie, the Lady Lions (8-8-3, 3-3-1) shook off an 11-5 shots discrepancy. Albright advances to the conference tournament by virtue of its 2-0 victory over Elizabethtown on October 10. Widener suffered a 3-0 loss to the Blue Jays on Monday.
Sophomores Brittany Balentine (Medford, NJ) and Brittany Harvis (Delran, NJ) each fired three shots for the Pride. Senior Alee Gunter (Maple Shade, NJ) and freshman Vanessa Hejnas (Delran, NJ) made one save apiece.
It was another solid campaign for the Pride, who notched double digits in victories a school-record fifth straight year. The senior class graduates with a program-best 51 wins.
