Nyere Miller's Perfect Night Helps Men's Basketball Past Arcadia and Into First Place

Senior Nyere Miller (Washington, DC) hit all of his shots in scoring a season-best 25 points for Widener, 73-51 winners over Commonwealth Conference foe Arcadia at Schwartz Center.
 
Miller drilled seven 3-pointers to match his career high, going along with shooting 8-of-8 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the line. He personal best is 26 points set February 23, 2008 against Elizabethtown.
 
Last year's conference tournament MVP hit two 3-pointers during a 15-5 run that helped Widener (12-4, 3-1 CC) open a 51-33 lead with 10:31 remaining. This was part of a stretch in which he netted 17 points in the second half, drilling five 3-pointers.
 
Senior Charles Jones (Philadelphia, PA) scored 19 points for the Pride, who shot a blistering 74 percent (14-of-19) from the field in the second half and 7-of-8 from beyond the arc.
 
Junior Jamarr Johnson (Pittsgrove, NJ) grabbed eight rebounds and sophomore Jarrell Nelson (Waldorf, MD) had seven to help Widener to a 39-35 edge.
 
Terrell Varnado poured in 17 points and Khalief Trawick netted 10 off the bench for the Knights (7-9, 2-2), who shot 38 percent (18-of-48) overall and 0-of-12 from 3-point range.
 
Widener gained sole possession of first place in the league thanks to Albright (2-2) falling at Messiah.

Widener is home Saturday against Messiah at 3:00 pm, which follows the women's game between the schools at 1:00 pm.
