Widener scored 12 straight points late in the game and made it three straight victories with a 97-93 triumph over St. Lawrence at the Buffalo State Holiday Inn Invitational in Buffalo, NY.
Playing its first game in 20 days, Widener (8-3) found itself in a 90-83 hole with 3:07 left. But the Pride roared back and took the lead for good as junior Jamarr Johnson (Pittsgrove, NJ) made a layup with 1:02 left for a 92-90 lead.
Following a series of turnovers by both teams, senior Matt Sosna (Stratford, NJ) hit a layup with 11 seconds left to give Widener a 94-90 edge. Senior Charles Jones (Philadelphia, PA) made 1-of-2 from the line with five seconds to play for a 95-90 cushion.
Sosna had 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting with nine rebounds over 30 minutes and Jones also poured in 21 points. Junior Bobby Edmunds (Linwood, NJ) scored 19 points, Chris McDevitt (Doylestown, PA) netted 11 and fellow sophomore Jarrell Nelson (Waldorf, MD) had 10.
Ralph Temgoua scored 24 points on 10-of-12 shooting and Bela Vonnak had 17 and eight rebounds for the Saints (4-3).
Widener on Saturday faces host Buffalo State in the final at 4:00 pm.
