Caryinna Yenchak’s Eight-Point Day Lifts Women’s Soccer to 7-1 Rout of Goucher

(boxscore)

Sophomore Caryinna Yenchak (Ashley, PA) tied the school record with eight points and scored three goals for the second time in as many games, helping Widener win its third straight with a 7-1 triumph over Goucher at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Yenchak's first tally capped a four-goal first half in which Widener (4-3-1) scored all of its markers within a 16-minute stretch.  She bumped her total to six goals on the year.

Yenchak's point total today equals the mark previously set by junior Sam Baer (Lancaster, PA) on September 3 against Neumann.  The three goals also ties a school record accomplished many times, including Saturday's 11-0 rout of Penn State Abington.

Freshman Brittany Harvis (Delran, NJ) scored twice, raising her team-leading total to nine for the Pride.  Freshman Brittany Balentine (Medford, NJ) and sophomore Traci Farrell (Clayton, NJ) also found the back of the net.

Baer ended with three assists to tie the school record and Harvis notched two for Widener, which dominated with a 34-1 shots edge.

The one shot from Goucher (4-3) came when Sisley Pumilia had a clear go in off her and in the net for her 12th goal of the season.

Kellen Matthews made 14 saves for the Gophers, including one off a penalty shot from junior Kim Sharpless (Millville, NJ).

Widener next Wednesday visits FDU-Florham for a 7:00 pm game in Madison, NJ.
