Field Hockey Surrenders Two Late Goals in 3-1 Loss at Alvernia

Widener played Alvernia tight most of the contest before allowing two goals in the final 10 minutes for a 3-1 loss in Reading, PA.

The Pride grabbed a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute when freshman Colleen Cormier (Westampton, NJ) scored her first collegiate goal off a feed from sophomore Megan Scarpinato (Sewell, NJ).  The Crusaders leveled the match in the 25th minute as Janelle Lynch scored her fourth goal of the year, thanks to a pass from Katy Eby.

Alvernia (4-2) took its first lead in the 61st minute when Sarah George tallied an unassisted marker.  Eby found the back of the net in the 65th minute from Kaitlin Prutzman for the final goal.

Scarpinato had three shots and junior Katie Jensen (Center Valley, PA) made seven saves for the Pride (1-5).

Eby took seven shots and Audrey Hoffman totaled three saves for Alvernia.

Widener is home Saturday against DeSales, beginning at 1:00 pm.
