Women's Soccer Loses Another One-Goal Heartbreaker, 2-1 at Rutgers-Camden

(boxscore)

Widener suffered its third one-goal loss of the season, permitting a tally by Rutgers-Camden in the 88th minute for a 2-1 setback in Camden, NJ.

Tina Mascia put the Scarlet Raptors (4-2) on the board in the 19th minute with a short shot into the net.  Freshman Brittany Harvis (Delran, NJ) evened things for the Pride (1-3-1) in the 59th minute with her third goal of the year off an assist from senior Sam Baer (Lancaster, PA).

But Rutgers-Camden dealt Widener a crushing blow as Mascia netted her fifth goal of the season off a feed from Jessica Leoni.

The Pride controlled play most of the match, ending with a 12-8 shots edge that included 7-3 in the first half.  Harvis and sophomore Jessie Furia (Morton, PA) each fired three shots and sophomore Rochele Jacobs (Northfield, NJ) made two saves.

Mascia closed with five shots, Jayme Gatti totaled six saves in the first half and Natalie Browne added three following intermission.

Widener's four-game road trip continues Saturday at Drew, beginning at 3:30 pm in Madison, NJ.
