Women's Soccer Plays to Draw With Dickinson, but Loses Shootout

Widener began its season by playing to a 0-0 draw against Dickinson before losing in a shootout at the Cabrini Soccer Festival in Radnor, PA.

The game is recorded as a tie, but a shootout was required for purpose of advancement.  The Red Devils notched a 3-2 triumph in the shootout.

Ashley Koroncai (Oreland, PA) scored in the second round of the best-of-five shootout and fellow junior Kim Sharpless (Millville, NJ) tallied in the fourth round for a 2-2 tie.

Courtney Anderson in the fifth round scored for Dickinson (0-0-1), but sophomore Jessie Furia (Morton, PA) could not convert for the Widener (0-0-1).

Junior Alee Gunter (Maple Shade, NJ) kept the Pride in the contest with 18 saves, including two in overtime.  Junior Sam Baer (Lancaster, PA) fired four shots.

The Red Devils owned a 27-8 shots edge that included 15 attempts from Genevieve Olson.  Kailyn Hartmann made six saves.

Widener on Saturday faces Saint Joseph's (NY) in the consolation round at 10:00 am.
