Baseball Handed 12-5 Loss at Rowan

4/16/08 -- Widener could not overcome an eight-run fourth inning by Rowan in a 12-5 loss in Glassboro, NJ. 

Freshman Tom DeAngelis (Pottstown, PA) saw his astounding 25-game hitting streak come to an end, finishing with three groundouts, a popout and a walk. He batted .411 (44-for-107) during that span.

Rowan's big inning was highlighted by two-run singles from Tom Holmstrom, Garrett Mull and Paul Urbanovich, giving the home team a 9-2 lead.

Freshman Justin Maziarz (Royersford, PA) had a two-run single in the ninth for the Pride (20-9). Brookhaven, PA freshman Kevin Culbert (3-2) permitted nine runs – two earned – and nine hits over 3 2/3 innings.

Urbanovich closed with four hits and Mull went 3-for-3 with four RBI for the Profs (22-8). Michael Halbach (1-0) allowed an unearned run and one hit over three relief innings with two strikeouts.

Widener on Saturday plays a doubleheader against Drew in Cooperstown, NY, beginning at 1:30 pm.
