Pat Santry's Two-Run, 10th-Inning Single Helps Baseball to 6-3 Win Over Gettysburg

(boxscore)

3/4/08 -- Senior Pat Santry (Newtown, PA) lined a two-run single in the top of the 10th inning, lifting Widener to a 6-3 victory over Gettysburg in St. Petersburg, FL.

Freshman Tom DeAngelis (Pottstown, PA) led off the 10th with a single and reached second when senior Matt Fischer (Bensalem, PA) walked for the Pride (4-2). Freshman Josiah Fischer (Nazareth, PA) followed by dropping a sacrifice bunt, which was misplayed by catcher Michael Donohue that allowed DeAngelis to score for a 4-3 Widener lead.

Santry followed with his first RBI of the season, scoring both Fischer's for the final margin. Gettysburg managed one baserunner in the bottom of the 10th, but posted no serious threat.

Brookhaven, PA freshman Kevin Culbert (1-0) pitched the last three innings, yielding just one run and one hit with four strikeouts for the Pride. Jason Brooke (Collegeville, PA) notched six strikeouts over seven innings and fellow freshman Tom Mahoney (Norristown, PA) had a two-run double in the second inning.

Matt Karis (0-1) permitted three runs – two earned – and four hits over two relief innings for the Bullets (4-1). Mike Backus had two hits and Andrew Burton lined a two-run double in the seventh.

Widener on Wednesday plays Husson in New Port Richey, FL, beginning at 11:00 am.
