Tom DeAngelis' 12th-Inning Single Lifts Baseball to 10th Straight Win, 7-6 Over Gwynedd-Mercy; Head Coach Steve Carcarey Notches 100th Career Victory

3/18/08 -- Freshman Tom DeAngelis (Pottstown, PA) singled home the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning for Widener, which won its 10th straight game with a 7-6 triumph over Gwynedd-Mercy.

Freshman Alex Neiman (Gilbertsville, PA) in the 12th drew a one-out walk and advanced on a single by senior Pat Santry (Newtown, PA). Junior Mike Cahill (Spring Lake, NJ) was hit by a pitch to load the bases and DeAngelis followed with his game-high fourth hit.

DeAngelis continued his tear by extending his team-season-high hitting streak to 12 games. Senior Matt Fischer (Bensalem, PA) blasted a two-run homer and is carrying an eight-game hitting streak.

Sophomore Tom Connelly (Media, PA) had three hits and Santry had two, helping the Pride (13-2) end with 14.

Brookhaven, PA freshman Kevin Culbert (2-0) got the win, striking out seven and yielding just two hits over four scoreless innings.

John Barrington (0-2) was charged with a run and two hits over 1 2/3 innings for the Griffins (2-10). Albert DiDomenico had three hits.

The victory was the 100th for Widener head coach Steve Carcarey. He is 100-66-1 in five years with the Pride.

Widener is home Friday against Swarthmore, beginning at 3:00 pm.
