Widener fell victim to solid shooting by Richard Stockton from the floor and the free throw line in the second half, seeing its three-game winning streak snapped with an 80-66 loss at Schwartz Center.
Widener (4-2) scored eight straight points to close a 14-point deficit to 66-60 with 7:45 remaining. Senior Charles Jones (Philadelphia, PA) and junior Jamarr Johnson (Pittsgrove, NJ) netted four points apiece in that span with Jones capping it on a layup.
But the Ospreys (5-1) went on a 7-1 run over three minutes to take control, opening a 73-61 lead with 4:46 to play. Isham Poe scored five points in the burst.
Richard Stockton shot 50 percent (11-of-22) from the field after intermission and 76 percent (16-of-21) from the line. Widener hit only 36 percent (12-of-33) in that span and 2-of-3 from the charity stripe.
Jones finished with 25 points, one shy of his career best, on 10-of-22 shooting over 35 minutes and Johnson netted 12 points on 6-of-7 from the field.
Senior Matt Sosna (Stratford, NJ), the reigning Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week and member of the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week, had 15 points and a career-best 13 rebounds. It was his fourth career double-double.
Kai Massaquoi had 14 points and six rebounds with Santini Lancioni also scoring 14 for the Ospreys, who shot 52 percent (27-of-52) overall. Poe and Jerome Hubbard netted 13 points apiece and Omar Smith poured in 10.
Widener is off until next Wednesday, December 3, when it visits Valley Forge Christian. Tip-off in Phoenixville, PA is 8:00 pm.
