Men's Basketball Rolls to 106-53 Victory Over Penn State Brandywine in Oki Data Americas Tip-Off

Widener raced to a 35-point halftime lead and cruised to a 106-53 rout of Penn State Brandywine in the opener of the Oki Data Americas Tip-Off at Schwartz Center.

 

The Pride (3-1) held a 57-22 margin at the break thanks to nine points and six rebounds from freshman BJ Smith (Baltimore, MD), and nine and five from senior Matt Sosna (Stratford, NJ).

 

Widener shot 58 percent (23-of-40) from the field in the opening half and limited Penn State Brandywine to 40 percent (8-of-20).

 

Freshman Jack Brennan (Stratford, NJ) scored a team-high 16 points off the bench with Sosna posting 13 and eight.  Senior Charles Jones (Philadelphia, PA) poured in 12 points and freshman Perry Wright (Severn, MD) netted 10 for the Pride, who shot 57 percent (44-of-77) overall and 7-of-18 from 3-point range.

 

It is the most points Widener scored since a 117-52 victory over SUNY Purchase on November 21, 2004.

 

Marvin Dukes scored 21 points and TJ Hazinsky netted 12 for the Lions (0-2), who were limited to 34 percent (19-of-56) shooting from the field.

 

York (PA) rallied for a 91-77 victory over Delaware Valley in the nightcap.  The Spartans (1-2) used a 54-22 run bridging both halves, grabbing a 73-59 lead with 6:55 left and erasing a 37-19 deficit with 4:25 to go in the first.

 

Nick Brady scored 27 points with Jeremy Keefer adding 24 and 18 rebounds for the Spartans, who shot 69 percent (22-of-32) in the second half and 54 percent (32-of-59) overall.  James Jones poured in 19 points for the Aggies (0-2), who were held to 29 percent (12-of-42) after intermission and 35 percent (27-of-78) overall.
