Preston Dudley's Overtime Goal Lifts Men's Soccer to Thrilling 1-0 Win Over Neumann

(boxscore)

Freshman Preston Dudley (Grasonville, MD) could not have picked a better time for his first collegiate goal, scoring 56 seconds into overtime to give Widener a 1-0 victory over Neumann at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Dudley received a great through ball from sophomore Justin Hovaker (Pasadena, MD) and rocketed a 20-yard shot inside the left post, giving the Pride (4-5-3) a result in four of their last five games.

The goal ended a contest in which Widener owned an 11-5 shots edge, including 9-5 following halftime.  Senior Bill James (Perkasie, PA) had three shots.

Neumann (3-7-2) had its best chance in the 69th minute when Michael Rudden banged an open shot in the box off the crossbar.

Junior Hamed Correa (Cali, Colombia) had two saves for the Pride and Robert Mastriollo totaled five for the Knights.

Widener is home Saturday against Elizabethtown as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  The women's game starts at 2:00 pm, following by the men's contest at 4:30 pm.
