Junior Sarah Schaffer (Deptford, NJ) scored what proved to be the decisive goal and three others had two assists for Widener, which clinched a spot in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament with a 3-1 victory over Arcadia at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
With the match squared 1-1 in the 52nd minute, Widener (10-4-2, 3-1-1) benefited from a corner kick. Sam Baer (Lancaster, PA) kicked it to fellow junior Casey LeRoy (Washington Twp., NJ) and got a flick on it to Schaffer, who booted it home for her second goal of the year.
Freshman Brittany Harvis (Delran, NJ) continued her torrid play in the 68th minute with her team-leading 12th goal of the season and a 3-1 cushion. LeRoy and freshman Brittany Balentine (Medford, NJ) each notched their second assists of the contest.
Widener's fourth straight win and six-game unbeaten streak has it in second place in the league.
Junior Alee Gunter (Maple Shade, NJ) made two saves and sophomore Caryinna Yenchak (Ashley, PA) fired four shots for the Pride, who owned a 13-7 shots edge.
Yenchak scored her seventh goal of the season in the 26th minute off assists from Balentine and Baer. Katie O'Malley tied it for Arcadia (8-7-2, 1-3-1) in the 31st minute with her four goal of the year.
Widener closes its regular season Saturday at home against Lycoming as part of a doubleheader with the men's team. The women's match starts at 2:00 pm, followed by the men's contest at 4:30 pm.
