Preston Dudley's Goal With 33 Seconds Left Lifts Men's Soccer to 3-2 Victory Over Ursinus

(boxscore)

Freshman Preston Dudley (Grasonville, MD) scored in the last minute of each half, including the decider with 33 seconds left in Widener's 3-2 victory over Ursinus at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

On the finale, sophomore Brian James (Perkasie, PA) got a pass from freshman Gareth Cooper (Royersford, PA) on the right side.  James played a great ball to Dudley, who tapped it home for his fourth goal of the season and third game-winner for the Pride (7-6-3)

Ursinus (6-9) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute when Abe Cabello won a scramble in front and knocked it just under the crossbar.  Widener tied it in the 42nd minute when senior Bill James (Perkasie, PA) converted a penalty kick after his brother Brian was taken down in the box.

Dudley's first goal with 11 seconds remaining in the half came on a great through ball from senior Doug Gabel (Feasterville, PA) for a 2-1 lead.  The Bears leveled the match in the 52nd minute as Justin Faust scored on a header.

Dudley had four shots for the Pride, who closed with a 14-7 edge.  Junior Marty Squicciarini (Lansdale, PA) made four saves.

Ed de Gottal totaled five saves for Ursinus.

Widener hits the road Tuesday to visit Arcadia, beginning at 3:30 pm.
