Freshman Colleen Cormier (Westampton, NJ) scored three times and added an assist for Widener, which erupted for three second-half goals in a 4-1 Commonwealth Conference victory at Albright in Reading, PA.
Cormier gave Widener the lead for good, 2-1, by tallying in the 49th minute off a penalty corner. Sophomores Megan Scarpinato (Sewell, NJ) and Lauren Fidati (Forest Hill, MD) added the assists.
The Pride made it 3-1 in the 51st minute with Cormier finding the back of the cage off an assist from sophomore Shannon Fien (Millville, NJ). Cormier also tallied eight minutes later, her fifth goal of the season, off Scarpinato's feed for a 4-1 Widener cushion.
Cormier, the 15th player in school history to notch a hat trick, fired six shots to help the Pride own a 19-12 edge. Sophomore Megan Purcell (Perkasie, PA) made seven saves for Widener (5-7, 1-0 CC), which won for the fourth time in six outings.
Caitlin Feldman took seven shots and Kaitlyn Johnstone had 11 saves for the Lady Lions (3-9, 0-2).
Albright got on the board in the eighth minute as Feldman tallied off a feed from Lauren Smolar. The Pride evened things, 1-1, in the 14th minute when Fien scored thanks to an assist from junior Jessica Gonzalez (Eastampton, NJ).
Widener is home Thursday against Gwynedd-Mercy at 7:00 pm on “Breast Cancer Awareness Night.” The Pride will accept donations to help breast cancer research and fans are encouraged to wear pink.
