1/8/08 -- Junior Charles Jones (Philadelphia, PA) scored a season-best 24 points for Widener, which got it done on both ends of the court for an 80-70 victory over Neumann at Schwartz Center.
Derahn Patrick hit a layup with 4:57 left to bring Neumann within 67-64. But that would be the Knights' final basket aside from an innocuous layup by Toure' Wright with four seconds to go.
Widener (12-1) went on a 12-1 run to open a 79-65 cushion with 52 seconds remaining. Jones and sophomore Bobby Edmunds (Linwood, NJ) each netted five points in that span.
This helped the Pride shoot 42 percent (10-of-24) from the field in the second half and 51 percent (25-of-49) overall. The Knights (3-8) were held to a mere 24 percent (5-of-21) after intermission.
Edmunds finished with a career-high 20 points and was 3-of-3 from 3-point range. Junior Nyere Miller (Washington, DC) and sophomore Craig Stewart (Herndon, VA) poured in 10 points apiece.
Jones shot 8-for-11 from the line and Edmunds was 9-for-10 as Widener ended 24-for-34.
DJ Fritz scored 24 points and Na'Sheed Linton had 14 for Neumann, which shot 44 percent (21-of-48) overall and was 6-of-9 from 3-point range. Patrick and Eli Hitchens grabbed six rebounds apiece as the Knights closed with a 38-24 edge.
Widener continues its six-game homestand next Monday against Immaculata, beginning at 7:00 pm.
