Men's Basketball Wins Fifth Straight, 90-76 Over Immaculata

1/14/08 -- Widener once again used a mix of great shooting and solid defense for its fifth straight win, 90-76 over Immaculata at Schwartz Center.

Widener (13-1) pulled away with a 10-0 run in just under five minutes for its largest lead, 73-56 with 7:26 left. Freshman Jarrell Nelson (Waldorf, MD) scored four points in that span with junior Charles Jones (Philadelphia, PA) and sophomore Jamarr Johnson (Pittsgrove, NJ) netting three apiece.

The Pride held the Mighty Macs (9-4) without a field goal over an eight-minute stretch in the second half and the visitors got no closer than 11 after the decisive run. Widener shot 54 percent (15-of-28) from the floor in the second half and Immaculata was limited to 36 percent (10-of-28).

Jones scored 20 points, Johnson netted a career-high 17, junior Nyere Miller (Washington, DC) had 16, sophomore Bobby Edmunds (Linwood, NJ) poured in 15 and Nelson contributed a season-best 11. Junior Tracy Jones (Indian Head, MD) grabbed eight rebounds to help the Pride end with a 46-39 edge.

Scott Marston had 22 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks for Immaculata, which ended with an astounding 12 blocks. Kyle Finklea scored 23 points, Dan Lepone netted 12 and Sean Fordham had 10.

Widener continues its six-game homestand Thursday against Valley Forge Christian, beginning at 8:00 pm. That follows the women's contest against Penn State Brandywine, which starts at 6:00 pm.
