9/19/07 -- Sophomore Kim Sharpless (Millville, NJ) scored twice for Widener, which saw its unbeaten streak hit seven games with a 5-0 blanking of DeSales at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
Sophomore Sam Baer (Lancaster, PA) scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the eighth minute. She took a pass from senior Melanie Miller (Ardsley, PA) and buried a 15-yard shot inside the right post.
Sharpless' goal in the 28th minute thanks to Baer's pass gave Widener a 2-0 lead. Casey LeRoy (Washington Twsp., NJ) tallied in the 40th minute on a shot inside the left post with the feed coming from fellow sophomore Sarah Schaffer (Deptford, NJ).
Sharpless netted her fourth of the season early in the second half and freshman Valisha Andrus (Pemberton, NJ) added her second for the Pride (6-1-1), who owned a 20-5 shots advantage.
Sophomore Alee Gunter (Maple Shade, NJ) made two saves in just over 80 minutes with Baer attempting four shots.
The unbeaten run (6-0-1) is Widener's longest since the 2002 squad opened 6-0-1. The school record is 10 games (8-0-2) set in 1995.
The Pride this season have outscored their opponents 25-7, including 25-1 during the current stretch. It was the team's sixth shutout of the year, four shy of the school record from 1995.
Katie Halpin made three saves and Jill Yetter had two shots for DeSales (1-5-1).
Widener is home Saturday against Arcadia at 7:00 pm as part of a doubleheader with the men's team. The men's contest against Wesley begins at 4:00 pm.
