9/12/07 -- Sam Baer (Lancaster, PA), fellow sophomore Kim Sharpless (Millville, NJ) and freshman Caryinna Yenchak (Ashley, PA) all scored for Widener, which extended its unbeaten streak to five games with a 3-0 victory over Rutgers-Newark at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
Baer scored her team-leading seventh goal of the year in the 19th minute, heading a free kick from senior Laura Davidson (Media, PA) inside the left post. Sharpless tallied in the 55th minute for a 2-0 margin, blasting home a 15-yard shot off a feed from freshman Jessie Furia (Morton, PA).
Yenchak closed the scoring with her third of the year, knocking in a corner from Davidson in the 63rd minute. This helped Widener end with a 19-6 shots edge, including 10-1 in the opening half.
Sophomore Alee Gunter (Maple Shade, NJ) made five saves and Baer closed with five shots for the Pride (4-1-1), who are 4-0-1 during this stretch.
Alison Phillips took two shots for the Scarlet Raiders (3-2).
Widener is home Saturday to face Drew at 4:00 pm as part of a doubleheader with the men's team. The men's contest against Cabrini starts at 7:00 pm.
