12/14/07 -- Widener's red-hot shooting and tough defense helped build a 19-point halftime lead en route to a 75-55 victory at Wilkes in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
The Pride (10-1) opened a 35-16 cushion at the break by shooting 48 percent (14-of-29) from the floor and holding the Colonels (3-2) to just 17 percent (1-of-6). Junior Nyere Miller (Washington, DC) had six points and five rebounds with junior Charles Jones (Philadelphia, PA) and freshman Clinton Cole (Upper Darby, PA) netting six points apiece.
Jones finished with 14 points, marking the 10th straight game he has scored in double figures. Miller and Cole poured in 11 points apiece for Widener, which never trailed, shot 49 percent (29-of-59) overall and nailed six 3-pointers.
Miller, Jones and junior Matt Sosna (Stratford, NJ) each grabbed five rebounds to help the Pride end with a 40-30 edge. Widener held a 24-12 advantage on the boards at halftime.
Tom Kresge had 11 points and five rebounds with Steve Kline adding 10 and seven for Wilkes, which shot 33 percent (18-of-54) from the field and only was 3-of-15 from 3-point range.
Widener is off until January 5, when it opens a six-game homestand against Arcadia. Tip-off at Schwartz Center is 3:00 pm.
