11/29/07 -- Sophomore Bobby Edmunds (Linwood, NJ) banked in a floater from the foul line at the buzzer, rallying Widener to a dramatic 69-67 victory at Richard Stockton in Pomona, NJ.
The Ospreys (2-1), who led by as many as nine points midway through the second half, scored seven straight to open a 61-54 cushion with 5:44 left. Jerome Hubbard capped the run with two free throws.
Widener (6-0) stormed back with 13 straight points for a 67-61 cushion with 1:27 remaining. Junior Charles Jones (Philadelphia, PA), the reigning Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week, netted six in that span and capped it on a jumper.
Hubbard made a layup with 1:16 left for a 67-63 contest and Jon Greene contributed a steal and dunk with 44 seconds remaining for a two-point margin.
After junior Nyere Miller (Washington, DC) missed a 3-pointer for the Pride, the Ospreys (2-1) had a chance. Greene was fouled and hit two free throws with 4.7 seconds remaining for a 67-67 tie.
Edmunds then provided the heroics. He took the inbounds pass and dribbled past two players in the backcourt. With another defender approaching him near the foul line, Edmunds let one go and banked it in for the victory.
Jones had 15 points and five assists with sophomore Jamarr Johnson (Pittsgrove, NJ) and freshman Clinton Cole (Upper Darby, PA) adding 10 points apiece for the Pride. The team shot 44 percent (24-of-54) from the field and drilled eight 3-pointers.
Greene had 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting and 10 rebounds for Richard Stockton, which shot 52 percent (11-of-21) in the second half and 47 percent (23-of-49) overall. Hubbard and Fran Kelly scored 16 points apiece.
Widener on Saturday hosts King's, beginning at 3:00 pm. It is a re-match of last year's NCAA Tournament first-round game in which the Pride notched a 76-63 victory in Wilkes-Barre.
