11/27/07 -- Charles Jones (Philadelphia, PA) scored 18 points and fellow junior Matt Sosna (Stratford, NJ) added 12 for Widener, which remained undefeated with a 75-56 victory over Cabrini in Radnor, PA.
Jones scored eight points during a 13-3 run as the Pride opened a 57-42 lead with nine minutes left. Widener (5-0) pulled away in the second half by shooting 59 percent (16-of-27) from the field. The squad hit for 50 percent (28-of-56) overall and drilled six 3-pointers.
Jones, the reigning Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week, shot 8-of-11 from the floor over just 22 minutes and Sosna hit 5-of-9 along with grabbing six rebounds.
Freshman Branden Washington (Elkridge, MD) also added six rebounds to help the Pride gain a 41-32 edge. Freshman Tavaris Smith (Owings, MD) scored eight points and sophomore Jamarr Johnson (Pittsgrove, NJ) added seven.
Bruce MacLelland netted 16 points and Glenn Washington added 12 for the Cavaliers (1-2), who shot 41 percent (21-of-51) and could not overcome hitting 42 percent (11-of-26) from the line.
Widener again hits the road Thursday to visit Richard Stockton, beginning at 7:00 pm.
