10/3/07 -- Freshman Caryinna Yenchak (Ashley, PA) and sophomore Sam Baer (Lancaster, PA) each scored for Widener, which won its third straight game with a 2-1 triumph over Rutgers-Camden at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
Yenchak scored her fifth goal of the season in the 36th minute for Widener (9-2-1). Sophomore Kim Sharpless (Millville, NJ) stole the ball and had her shot saved by goalkeeper Kristen Cargen. But Yenchak pounced on the rebound for a 1-0 Widener lead.
Baer netted her Commonwealth Conference-leading 13th goal of the year in the 56th minute for a 2-0 margin. She flicked home a five-yard shot inside the left post with senior Melanie Miller (Ardsley, PA) and sophomore Rachel Kyprianou (Shrewsbury, PA) recording the assists.
The Lady Raptors (4-6-3) got an own goal in the 64th minute when a corner kick from Jessica Leoni was headed in by a Pride defender.
Sophomore Alee Gunter (Maple Shade, NJ) made two saves and Baer had 16 shots for Widener, which finished with a 16-3 shots advantage.
Cargen kept Rutgers-Camden in the game with nine saves, including one on a breakaway in the first half from Baer.
Widener on Saturday plays its first road game since September 5 when it visits Lycoming for its Commonwealth Conference opener. The match begins at 3:30 pm after the two schools square off in men's action at 1:00 pm.
