10/13/07 -- Senior Sam Hand (Millville, NJ) and freshman Caryinna Yenchak (Ashley, PA) each scored twice for Widener, winners of six straight following a 6-0 triumph at Goucher in Towson, MD.
Yenchak scored twice within the first 16 minutes of the contest. Hand, senior Melanie Miller (Ardsley, PA) and freshman Caitlin McKenna (Delran, NJ) tallied within a seven-minute span midway through the half for a 5-0 halftime margin.
Hand closed the scoring with 6:41 left for the Pride (12-2-1), who notched a 29-3 shots edge that included 16-2 in the opening half. Hand, Miller, freshman Rachel Kyrprianou (Shrewsbury, PA), senior Kerri Schulz (Philadelphia, PA), sophomore Sarah Schaffer (Deptford, NJ) and senior Robin Kelly (Franklinville, NJ) all had assists.
Sophomore Alee Gunter (Maple Shade, NJ) ended with three saves and Yenchak posted six shots.
Widener's winning streak is its longest since the 1995 team won a school-record eight straight. The Pride earlier this season posted a seven-game unbeaten run.
Kellen Matthews had 14 saves for Goucher (3-9).
Widener is home Tuesday against second-ranked Messiah as part of a doubleheader with the men's team. The women's match starts at 4:00 pm and the men's contest begins at 7:00 pm.
