    Assistant Women's Soccer Coach
Veteran mentor Angelo Albanese is entering his first season as an assistant coach with the Widener University women’s soccer team. He will be responsible for assisting head coach Todd Wawrousek with all aspects of the program.
 
Albanese comes to Widener after most recently teaching Spanish at Lampeter-Strasburg High School in Lancaster, Pa. since 1984. During his tenure, he served as the school’s boys’ soccer coach from 1984 through 1997 as well as the girls’ soccer coach from 1995 through 2000.
 
In addition to his experience at the scholastic level, Albanese has been a head coach and assistant coach for the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association at the boys U-16 and U-17 levels of competition. His other coaching stints included serving as an assistant coach at Slippery Rock in 1979 and as the head coach of the boys’ soccer team at Hampton High School in Pittsburgh from 1981 through 1983.
 
As a player, Albanese was a four-year letterwinner at Slippery Rock from 1975 through 1978. He was named an NSCAA All-American twice and later went on to play professionally for the Pittsburgh Spirit of the MISL.
 
Albanese, who is a native of Italy, earned his bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Slippery Rock in 1980 and his master’s in education from Wilkes in 2003. He resides in Bensalem with his wife, Vicki, and two cats. His daughter, Taylor, is a recent graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and is presently working as an ICU nurse in the city.
