Kate Dellinger, who had one of the top runs as a student-athlete in Widener history, is in her third season as an assistant coach for the team.
Dellinger’s individual accolades include being named a Capital One Academic All-American, a WBCA Honorable Mention All-American and the Philadelphia Inquirer Women’s Basketball Performer of the Year twice. A three-time All-Commonwealth Conference First Team selection, the guard was named the MAC’s nominee for the 2013 NCAA Woman of the Year Award, a finalist for the Jostens Trophy and Widener’s Most Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year as a senior. She graduated ranked sixth in school history with 1,255 points and fourth with 759 rebounds.
In the community, Dellinger volunteered with Special Olympics, Widener’s most important day of community service, Hoops From the Heart, which welcomes inner city kids for a day of basketball clinics, Cradles to Crayons, which provides everyday essentials to homeless and low-income children, and City Team, in which the squad adopted a family.
Dellinger, who also serves as the department’s certified strength and conditioning specialist for all varsity sports, graduated from Widener in 2013 with a degree in psychology. She received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and earned her master’s in exercise science from California University (Pa.) in 2015.
