Dexter Harris

Dexter Harris is in his fourth season as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Widener University. He is responsible for assisting head coach Chris Carideo with all aspects of the program.

Harris comes to Widener after spending the past four seasons as a member of the Chestnut Hill men’s basketball program in Philadelphia. He played two seasons while battling through injuries before having his career cut short due to being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) as a junior.

Despite the setback, Harris stayed heavily involved with the program and adopted the position of being a ‘player’s coach” while also serving as a team captain. For his efforts, the guard was most notably recognized for his contributions to the program and the game by the Philadelphia-Area Small College Coaches’ Association (PASSCA) as the recipient of the Sam Cozen Player of the Week award on Feb. 2, 2016. The award, which was also given to Widener senior captain Kendall Green last winter, is earned by a select group of players each season who “embody the spirit” of small college basketball.

In addition, the native of Swedesboro, New Jersey has spent time giving back to the local community. His service and civic engagement endeavors include serving food to the homeless at his local church and volunteering with a mimithon for pediatric cancer research.

Harris earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in Spanish from Chestnut Hill in 2016. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree at the institution and plans to eventually pursue a career as a sports psychologist.
