Field Hockey's Offense Erupts in 9-1 Win Over Immaculata, Cenci Records Hat-Trick

CHESTER, Pa. - Widener field hockey made scoring seem effortless in a 9-1 win over Immaculata University at Edith R. Dixon Field. 

With the win, the Pride improve to 3-4 on the season.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Widener took 45 shots to Immaculata's one.
  • The nine goals were the most scored in a game since the Pride scored 11 against William Paterson on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024.
  • Annabella Cencil scored three goals and recorded her second hat-trick of her career.
  • Sammie Pinelli scored twice and added an assist.
  • Kendall Blankenship, Scarlett Beeler and Alexa Debord all scored their first collegiate goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride wasted no time getting on the board with Cenci scoring within the first two minutes of the game. Later in the period, Cenci scored her second goal of the game off a Karly Bervinchak assist at the 11:54 minute mark.
  • Widener kept their foot on the gas in the second period with Sammie Pinelli getting involved in the scoring action. Pinelli scored with five and a half minutes to go in the quarter to give the Pride a 3-0 lead.
  • In the third period, Cenci scored her third goal after Blankenship gave her a leading pass to give the Pride a 4-0 lead. Just two minutes later, Blankenship got her first goal with Widener off a Pinelli assist to push the Pride lead to five.
  • Widener put four fourth quarter goals on the board, starting with Pinelli's second goal of the game after redirecting a shot from Harlie Bakey. Later in the period, Brie Mallozzi received a  pass from Bervinchak at the corner post and hammered the ball into the cage, making it 7-0 in favor of the Pride. Beeler and Debord added goals while Immaculata scored with 2:14 to go in the period, the final score reading 9-1 in favor of the Pride. 
UP NEXT
Widener opens MAC conference play when they welcome Albright to Dixon Field on Saturday, October 3. The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
