BALTIMORE, Md. - Widener Women's Soccer overcame an early deficit with three unanswered goals in the first half to defeat the Notre Dame (Md.) Gators, 3-1, in their season opener.
The Pride are now 1-0-0 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Widener came out attacking early, earning two corner kicks in the opening three minutes and putting multiple shots on goal. Notre Dame (Md.) would strike first, however, as Taylor Edwards found the back of the net in the 15th minute to give the Gators a 1-0 lead. The Pride responded quickly, with Quinn tying the game at 19:55 off an assist from Losada. Widener continued to apply pressure, with Brenna Riddell hitting the top woodwork in the 30th minute before Quinn found the back of the net again at 39:15 to give the Pride their first lead of the night. Just 1:26 later, Eye extended the advantage to 3-1 with an assist from Ayala. Widener carried the two-goal advantage into halftime.
- The Pride continued to control the pace after the break, earning two corner kicks in the opening five minutes and creating several scoring opportunities. Widener's pressure continued throughout the half as Allison Gomez, Losada, Ayala, Charlotte Burke, Mia Garofalo and Riddell all recorded shots, with Notre Dame goalkeeper Leah Hasberry making several saves to keep the Gators within striking distance. Notre Dame managed just one shot in the second half, while Widener continued to generate chances and added three more corner kicks. The Pride's defense held firm down the stretch, and Widener closed out the 3-1 victory.
