CHESTER, Pa. — Women's Volleyball battled Muhlenberg College in a five-set matchup Thursday night, falling to the Mules, 3-2.
The Pride move to 1-7 overall and remain 1-0 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Widener came out strong in the opening set, jumping out to a 4-0 lead. Muhlenberg battled back to even the score at 5-5 before the Pride regained a 10-9 advantage. The Mules then used a 5-0 run to take control and held on for a 25-20 first-set victory.
- The Pride responded in the second set, overcoming an early 8-4 deficit. Widener rallied to tie the set at 9-9 before taking a 19-14 lead. Muhlenberg later pulled even at 22-22, but the Pride scored the final three points to take the set, 25-22, and even the match at 1-1.
- The third set featured another back-and-forth battle. Widener held a 15-13 lead before the Mules answered with four straight points to move in front, 17-15. The Pride fought back to take an 18-17 lead and later extended the advantage to 24-20. Muhlenberg responded with six consecutive points, however, completing the comeback with a 26-24 win to take a 2-1 match lead.
- Widener again battled back in the fourth set. After Muhlenberg took a 17-14 lead, the Pride scored three straight points to tie the set at 17-17. The teams continued to trade points, with the score tied at 19-19 and 20-20. Widener then took a 22-20 lead before the Mules evened the set at 22-22. The Pride scored three of the final five points to claim the set, 25-23, and force a deciding fifth set.
- Muhlenberg scored first in the fifth before going on a run to build a 9-3 advantage. Widener continued to fight, cutting the deficit to 11-9 and later 14-12. The Mules scored the final point, though, securing the 15-12 fifth-set victory and the 3-2 match win.

The Pride remain at home on Saturday, September 19, as they host a tri-match against Marywood University and Kean University. The first match is scheduled for 11 a.m.
