Chilly Conference Night Shows Women’s Lacrosse Falling to Stevenson

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Women's Lacrosse fall to .500 in conference play after a duel against Stevenson on Dixon Field.
 
The 13-7 loss moves the Pride to 7-5 in the regular season and 1-1 in conference play.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Jessica Mantz led the Pride with a hat trick.
  • Gianna Scaliti picked up three assists and a goal.
  • On defense, Ciana Suydam and Claire Lnych forced three turnovers.
  • Madison Warlow registered nine saves in the cage.
  • The Pride took 24 total shots, went 10-of-16 in clears, and tied the Mustangs in draws with 11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The cold contest started with the Pride striking first with a Mantz draw control and a Alyssa Ruggiero unassisted goal. Warlow picked up her first save off a Mustangs shot at 13:39 before the Mustangs took a 3-0 run. Lynch's free position shot was blocked while Warlow made a free position save on the other side. Mantz broke the Mustangs run with a Scaliti assisted goal for her 33rd. Warlow picked up another save to transition the Pride to a Ruggiero unassisted goal to end the first down 5-3.
     
  • To open the second, the Pride would force a clock violation. The Pride capitalized with a Scaliti to Mantz goal to move the score to 5-4. Lynch won the next draw while Jarliah Ferko's free position shot hit the post. Alex Krohn forced a turnover and snagged a ground ball while Scaliti tied the game at five. Warlow ended the quarter with a save to head to half down 6-5.
     
  • The Pride opened the final half with an up goal by Mantz for her 36th goal. The Mustangs would answer off a Pride turnover to take a 7-6 lead. A back-and-forth would emerge as Lynch forced two quick turnovers and the Mustang's free position shot was blocked. On the attacking side, Lucia Visalli's shot was blocked and Scaliti let shots fly. The third ended with the score showing a one point favorite towards Stevenson.
     
  • With 15 to play, the Mustangs tacked on two early before Ferko scored an up goal off a Scaliti pass. Out of a Mustangs' timeout, Warlow registered a handful of saves. A stretched Mustang offense scored two more to force a Pride timeout with 5:51 left. Suydam forced a turnover while Lynch followed suit late in the game. The final score showed a 13-7 favor to Stevenson.
UP NEXT
Widener heads to York, Pa. to take on the 8-4 (1-1 MAC Commonwealth) No. 8 York Spartans. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
