YORK, Pa. – Widener Women's Lacrosse fall to No. 8 York in a conference contest on Saturday afternoon.
The 20-3 loss moves the Pride to 7-6 in the regular season and 1-2 in conference play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Jessica Mantz would lead the Pride with a pair.
- Alex Kroh held the only Pride assist.
- On defense, Ciana Suydam forced two turnovers.
- In the cage, Regan Polacek registered five saves.
- The Pride took nine shots, went 8-of-15 in clears, won eight draw controls, and went 2-of-5 in free position shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride open the contest with a Mantz draw control before the Spartans defense comes away on top. The Spartans scored three quick goals before Alyssa Ruggiero scored her 17th of the season on a free position. The Pride would call a timeout with 7:33 left as the score was 7-1 York. Back-to-back free position attempts for the Pride would eventually result in a Mantz shot and an Ava Leporati post hit. Mantz picked up her second goal of a Krohn pass to make the score 6-2.
- Warlow saw a save to open the second while Lucia Visalli forced a turnover. The Spartans offense would core three fast ones before Warlow made another save. After 30 minutes of play the Pride were down 13-2.
- Polacek took over in the cage to open the second. A long stretched third would see a handful of Polcek saves. A late Mantz up goal off a free position would end the third with the score favoring the Spartans 17-3.
- With 15 to play the Pride would take control with a Mantz draw control. Claire Lynch saw a free position shot that would fall wide while Suydam forced a turnover on the other side of the field. The scoring from both sides came to a halt with 5:31 left while Ava Mitchwarner saw a forced turnover to end the game 20-3.
