Pride Clinch Postseason Appearance Following Win Against Alvernia

READING, Pa. – A dominating road win against Alvernia for Widener Women's Lacrosse secures their spot in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament ahead of the final regular season contest.
 
The 17-7 win moves the Pride to 10-6 and 4-2 in conference play.
 
BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Golden Wolves would strike first while Warlow was tested early. Lynch would open the scoring with a goal at 12:10 off a Krohn pass. Jessica Mantz would win the draw to give Jarliah Ferko an goal from Krohn. The Pride offense continued to roll with Ferko and Lynch putting in two more to take a 4-0 lead with 10:34 left. Phillips poked the ball loose to transition the Pride to an Avery Farina goal. After the five assists, Kroh would score herself as the Pride took a 6-0 lead. Alyssa Ruggiero put her name in the books with an unassisted goal at 3:21. The first ended with a 7-1 score in favor of the Pride.
     
  • Warlow opened the second with a save while Ferko saw a goal this time from Gianna Scaliti. Mantz picked up her first of the game seconds later. Thornton and Stehman registered back-to-back forced turnovers before the Golden Wolves scored two. Phillips won the draw to give Ava Leporati an unassisted goal to answer. Lynch would erase the two goals with one of her own to head to half up 11-3.
     
  • With 30 to play, Regan Polacek came in to make a save early in the third while Ruggiero scored a free position goal on the other side of the field. Blades forced a turnover late in the third as the period ended with the Pride up 12-5.
     
  • The Pride began the fourth with possession as Lynch capitalized with an up goal with 14:22 left. Thornton and the defense would hold the Golden Wolves while Lynch and Mantz tacked on two. Stehman's caused turnover gave Scaliti a free position goal with 8:32 left. The Golden Wolves would score two late in the period before Blades registered her first career goal with 00:27 left to end with a 17-7 final.

Widener hosts the 12-4 (6-0 MAC Commonwealth) Messiah Falcons for their final regular season matchup. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 in Chester, Pa.
