Women’s Lacrosse Fall in Final Regular Season Game

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Women's Lacrosse wrap up their regular season with a conference loss to Messiah.
 
The 12-7 loss moves the Pride to a 10-7 regular season final record and a 4-3 conference record.
 
BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The 60 minute campaign opened with Warlow registering her first save while Claire Lynch scored an up goal to open the scoring with 12:15 left. The Pride defense held strong to force a clock violation and then capitalize with a Lynch goal from Alex Krohn. With 2:55 the Falcons scored their first to end first with the Pride up 2-1.
     
  • The second period started with three quick Falcons goal to take a 4-2 lead. The Pride defense again stood the test to force a clock violation. Alyssa Ruggiero won a draw to give Mantz an unassisted goal with 7:41. Phillips forced a turnover to give the Pride a transition to a Mantz goal with 5:14 left in the half. The Pride would tie the game off a Mantz free position goal for her 50th of the season. Suydam would force a late turnover to end the half down 6-5.
     
  • With 30 left to play, Warlow registered another save while the defense blocked a free position shot. The Falcons put in their 10th goal with 7:36 left to make the score 10-5. The final minutes of the third showed back-to-back Warlow saves and a Phillips forced turnover.
     
  • Warlow opened the final 15 with a free position shot save before the Falcons tacked on two. Ruggiero scored a goal from Scaliti to push the score to 12-6 Falcons. Warlow helped with a save to transition to an Ava Leporati goal off a Scaliti pass in. The final five minutes would show scoreless for both sides as Warlow came home with two quick saves to the game with a final score of 12-7.
UP NEXT
Widener will head to Grantham, Pa. on Wednesday, April 29 for the MAC Commonwealth Semifinal. Game time is yet to be determined.
