Pride Put Up 10 Runs but Unable to Keep Pace with Wilkes

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Baseball unable to keep pace with the Wilkes Colonels in a high scoring game.
 
The Pride are now 15-15 on the season and 9-6 in conference play.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Braedyn Clinton had a highly efficient day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs
  • Kevin Bukowski was a consistent offensive contributor, finishing 2-for-3 with a sacrifice fly, two RBIs, and a run scored.
  • Sean Burke had a productive day, going 1-for-2 with two walks, one run scored, and a pair of RBIs.
  • Brandon Yoder provided an early spark with an extra-base hit, finishing 1-for-4 with a crucial two-run double and a run scored.
  • Myles Calderbank finished 1-2 at the plate with a double and two walks.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Colonels wasted no time, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first. They broke the ice with an RBI single to left before a base hit up the middle drove home two more. The Pride were undeterred by the early Wilkes lead, exploding for five runs in the home half of the first. After Sean Burke walked and Kevin Bukowski singled, Brandon Yoder ignited the rally with a two-run double to left-center. Yoder eventually made it home on a wild pitch to knot the score at 3-3. Widener wasn't finished as Braedyn Clinton delivered a clutch two out single through the left side to drive in a pair and give the Pride a 5-3 lead. The Colonels came right back in the top of the second, blasting a three-run home run take a 6-5 lead. Wilkes added on again in the top of the third, making it a 7-5 game with a sacrifice fly to center field. The Pride came storming back once again in the bottom of the third, taking a 9-7 lead. Ryan Bauerle got the scoring started with a bases loaded walk to drive in one before Sean Burke drove in two with a single through the right side. Kevin Bukowski drove in another run with a single down the left field line. The back and forth continued in the top of the fifth as Wilkes regained the lead. After a lead off double, the runner was able to score from second on a bunt single to make it a 9-8 game. The Colonels then took a 10-9 lead following a two-run single to left field. Wilkes would add-on four more runs with after a throwing error, a two-run home run, and a solo home run to take a14-9 lead.
 
  • Kevin Bukowski made it a 14-10 game in the bottom of the fifth with a sacrifice fly to left field. Wilkes continued to hit in the top of the sixth, making it 17-10 with a three-run home run to right field. The Colonels would add on three more in the inning to take a commanding 20-10 lead. The Pride were unable to get any more on the board and would lose by a final score of 20-10.

The Pride will stay at home to face the Elizabethtown Blue Jays on Wednesday, April 15th. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
