Pride Answer Back to Earn Split at Stevenson

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - After falling in game one, Widener responded with a strong offensive showing to take game two on the road. 

Widener Softball improves to 9-19 on the season and moves to 2-8 in conference play. 
 

BY THE NUMBERS – GAME ONE 

  • Widener scored four runs on 10 hits in the opener against Stevenson 

  • Amanda Danz delivered, finishing with a double and two RBIs 

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE 
Stevenson struck first in the bottom of the first inning, capitalizing on an error before adding a triple and a single to take an early 2-0 lead. 

Widener responded in the second, as a double from Quinn and a two-RBI double by Danz evened the score at 2-2. 

The Pride took the lead in the third inning, stringing together four hits, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Sissons to make it 4-2. 

Stevenson answered in the bottom half of the inning, using a fielder's choice to plate a run and cut the deficit to 4-3. 

In the fourth, the Mustangs capitalized again, tying the game before a two-RBI triple pushed them ahead 6-4. 

Widener threatened in later innings with baserunners but was unable to push across another run. 

Stevenson held on over the final three innings to secure the 6-4 win. 

BY THE NUMBERS – GAME TWO 

  • Widener scored seven runs on 12 hits in game two against Stevenson 

  • Mia Ferraro added two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs 

  • Hailey Hernandez recorded two hits and scored twice while adding a stolen base 

  • Sara Clymer chipped in with a hit in a pinch appearance 

  • Hayden Sissons contributed with a hit and two RBIs in the contest 

  • Blake Shuler added a hit, a run scored, and a stolen base 

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO 
Widener jumped out early in the first inning, taking advantage of an error as Mayorga drove in two unearned runs to give the Pride a 2-0 lead. 

The Pride added on in the third, stringing together extra-base hits from Mayorga and Ferraro before Sissons delivered a two-RBI single to extend the lead to 5-0. 

Stevenson got on the board in the bottom half of the third, capitalizing on an error to make it 5-1. 

The Mustangs chipped away again in the fifth inning, using three hits to plate two runs and cut the deficit to 5-3. 

Widener responded in the seventh, as Clymer and Hailey Hernandez reached before Mayorga delivered an RBI single and Ferraro followed with another to push the lead to 7-3. 

Stevenson threatened in the bottom of the seventh with multiple baserunners, but the Pride defense held strong to secure the 7-3 victory. 

UP NEXT 

The Pride remain on the road as they head to Aston, Pa., on Wednesday, April 15, to take on Neumann University in a doubleheader. Game times are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
