Pride Launch Three Home Runs in Conference Win Over Alvernia

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Baseball smashed three home runs in a conference win over the Alvernia Golden Wolves.

The Pride are now 5-8 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Trae Sanders delivered a fantastic start, pitching 7.0 innings allowing only two runs on eight hits.
  • Brendan Raven was clutch today, going 2-4 with a single and a three-run home run in the first inning.
  • Kevin Bukowski stayed locked in, going 1-3 with a walk and a two-run home run.
  • Brandon Yoder went 1-4 with his first home run of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride offense got the party started in the bottom of the first inning. After a Ryan Bauerle single and a Kevin Bukowski walk, Brendan Raven stepped up to the plate and launched a three-run home run to left center to give the Pride an early lead. The Golden Wolves immediately answered in the top of the second, getting one across after three singles and a fielder's choice to cut to Widener lead to 3-1. Widener added on to their lead in the bottom of the third. Chris McKenna led off the inning with a walk and Kevin Bukowski followed that up with a two-run blast to right field. The Pride added on one more in the inning after a JP DiGuiseppe double and a Sean Burke single giving the Pride a 6-1 lead.

  • After both offenses went quietly in the fourth, Brandon Yoder extended the Pride lead in the fifth with a solo shot to left center. Alvernia was able to gain some momentum back in the top of the seventh, after and RBI triple cut the Widener lead to 7-2. The Golden Wolves made things interesting in the top of the eight, loading the bases with only one out. After and RBI walk, Ethan Lytle came in and limited the damage, only allowing Alvernia to put one more on the board. The Pride would add on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth after a Braedyn Clinton sacrifice fly before Lytle slammed the door shut to give the Pride an 8-4 conference win.
