Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Pride’s Suffer Loss in First Conference Game of the Year.

READING, Pa. – Widener Women's basketball was unable to overcome a fourth quarter deficit in a loss to the Alvernia Golden Wolves.

The Pride are now 9-3 on the season.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Riley Stackhouse was the leading scorer for the Pride, totaling 12 points while also grabbing two steals.  
  • Lindsay Kutz put together another solid performance with 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 steal.
  • Avalynn Baer posted a strong all-around performance with 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride took an early 6-4 lead after a Lindsay Kutz three ball with. Liliana Metrick followed that up with another three to continue the Widener momentum. Widener would add on three more points with after a Stackhouse free throw and Kimberly Casiello layup. The Pride would enter the second quarter with a 12-10 lead.
 
  • Kutz and Stackhouse added on to the Widener lead early in the quarter. A mid-range jumper from Metrick at the three-minute mark sparked a Widener 8-4 run to close out the half, which included a three from Metrick, a layup from Kutz, and free throws from Meredith Dufner. Widener would head into the locker room with a 25-18 lead.
 
  • Alvernia was able to retake the momentum at the start of the third quarter, going on an 8 to 4 run to bring the score within one. Kimberly Casiello and Avalynn Baer would both connect on two free throws to keep the Pride ahead by a score of 33-30. The Golden Wolves gained the lead for the first time since the first quarter with just under five to play in the third. Alvernia would go up 41-35, but Widener was able to fight back and tie the game up at 41 at the buzzer.
     
  • The Golden Wolves started the fourth by going on a 9-0 run. Riley Stackhouse was able to end the run with a jumper in the paint. Widener and Alvernia would trade buckets for the remainder of the quarter, and the Pride were unable to climb out of the deficit and would lose by a final score of 69-59.
 
UP NEXT
The Pride will return to Chester on Saturday, January 10th for a match up against Messiah. Tip off is set for 1 p.m.
