Pride Win in Overtime; Eagles Collapse in Final Minutes

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Men's Basketball surged in the final minutes to force overtime after Dylan Schlatter, Myles Bright, and Jay-Nelly Reyes make massive plays.
 
The 79-77 win moves the Pride to 5-9 in the regular season and 2-1 in conference play.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Myles Bright led the Pride with 21.
  • Jacob Aryee would hold 14 off the bench.
  • Jay-Nelly Reyes held seven with three steals and the game tying bucket.
  • The Pride shot 42.6% from the floor, 37.9% from three, and saw 30 points in the paint with 14 lead changes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Reyes put points on the board first for both sides after a layup. Bright hit a triple a minute later. Bright's jumper at 14:26 climbed the Pride to a one-point deficit. The Pride would make a short run with Dylan Schlatter and Aryee putting in free throws. Namisse Musonge sunk a triple at 9:51 to keep the game close. Emmett Kane and Reyes both put in free throws. Connor Schumacher threw up a block to give Schlatter two from the stripe. Segich hit an And-1 to tie the game 29. Three back-to-back triples would end the half up 38-35.
     
  • Out of half the Pride slowed before Bright put in a layup at 17:34. A back-and-forth emerged while Bright saw three and Aryee put in two from the stripe. Schlatter hit a triple with 13:00 left to take a 52-49 lead. TJ's Bryson at 8:24 took a 60-58 lead. A huge surge with two triples from Bryson and Ayree put the Pride back in front by four with 4:43 left. The Eagles would surge in the final minutes before the Pride struck back. Bright's free throws with 0:49 put the Pride down one before Reyes made a huge steal. A last effort erupted the Schwartz Center as Reyes made a triple to tie the game at 73.
     
  • After a thrilling second quarter, Bright put points on the board with a layup. Reyes came up with a huge steal to give Segich points while Bright hit a fastbreak layup to take a 79-73 lead. The Pride hung in to win 79-77.
