Pride Edged by Misericordia on the Road

DALLAS, Pa. - Widener Women's Volleyball drops a road match at Misericordia, 0-3.

The Pride falls to 2-9 on the season and remain 0-0 in conference play. 

BY THE NUMBERS 

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST  

  • Widener fell behind early as the Cougars jumped out to a 6–0 lead, but the Pride responded with nine of the next 14 points. Azira Benjamin and Bottino powered the offense with one kill apiece, while Ava Kramer added a service ace to bring the score to 9-11. The Pride continued to push, with Bottino tallying a kill and Chronister tallying a service ace to cut the deficit to 13-14. Benjmain and Mira Canali chipped in late points to keep the Pride within striking distance, but Misericordia closed the frame 25–18 to take the opening set. 

  • The Cougars opened the second set with the first few points, but the Pride responded with back-to-back kills from Canli and Kramer to tie it 4-4. The Cougars answered and pulled in front 5–4 before the Pride replied, bringing it to 9-11 with strong swings from Kramer and Bottino. From there, Misericordia pieced together a 6–1 run to create separation at 17–10. Widener continued to push late, with Bottino and Benjamin providing key points to narrow the margin to 15-20. Despite the effort, the Cougars held on to take the set 25–18, moving ahead 2–0 in the match. 

  • The Pride opened the third set with early momentum, using a pair of service aces from Julia Schwab and a kill from Benjamin to build a 5–2 advantage. The Pride held onto their edge through the middle stages, with Kramer, Bottino, Benjamin, and Schwab pushing the lead to 14–10. The Cougars battled back to even the score at 16–16 and then take the lead 22-16. Widener surged again behind points from Bottino, Kristen Vacca, and Airyn Zimmerman to pull within 22–24 late. Despite the strong push, the Cougars closed out the frame 25–22 to secure the sweep.

The Pride return home on Saturday, September 20, for a tri-match, hosting Neumann at 11:00 a.m. before facing RIT at 3:00 p.m.
