CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Baseball suffered a tough defeat against the Washington College Shoremen after a back-and-forth high scoring game.
The Pride fall to 19-17 on the season and remain 11-7 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Shoremen came out swinging, with their first two batters going back-to-back to take a quick 2-0 lead. They then proceeded to put up four more runs after multiple doubles in the gap to put the Pride in an early 6-0 hole. Widener loaded the bases in the bottom of the second and Tyler Harper took advantage, putting a ball in play to drive in the first run of the game for the Pride. Jon Aman added on run number two, poking a single into left field. Jack Balcer then came up bug, sending a shot over the center field walk to drive in three and cut the Washington College lead down to one. The Shoremen added on two more in the top of the fourth after a two-run shot to left center field. Ryan Bauler answered in the bottom of the inning, smoking a double in the left center field gap to drive in Aman. Jack Balcer and Kevin Bukowski followed that up with back-to-back doubles to tie the game at eight. Chris McKenna came in to pinch hit with the bases loaded and drove in a run to give Widener a 9-8 lead.
- The Pride added on to their lead in the bottom of the fifth, Ryan Bauerle laid down a beautiful bunt drive in one and then Jon Aman scored on a wild pitch to bring the Pride lead to 11-8. The Shoremen offense was unfazed by the Widener three run lead, putting up four runs in the top of the seventh take a 12-11 lead. Ryan Bauerle delivered a clutch double in the bottom half of the seventh to tie the game up at 12. Ryan Madden then hit a perfectly placed ground ball to drive in Bauerle and give Widener a 13-12 lead. Once again, Washington College answered, hitting a two-run home run to left center field to take a 14-13 lead. The Shoremen weren't done there as they proceeded to add on four more runs to take an 18-13 lead. Briand Fitzpatrick gave the Pride some life in the bottom of the eighth, hitting a solo home run over the right field wall. The Pride would put up a fight in the bottom of the ninth, scoring three runs, but would ultimately come up short losing by a final score of 18-17.

The Pride will play their final home game of the 2025 regular season against Messiah University on Friday, April 25th. First pitch is set for 3:30pm.
