CHESTER, Pa. – After being down six at one point. The Pride would put up a valiant fight but would ultimately fall to the Messiah University Falcons.
The Pride are now 19-18 on the season and 11-8 in the MAC Commonwealth.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Sean Burke powered the offense, going 2-5 with a single and a two-run home runs.
- Kevin Bukowski stayed hot, going 2-4 with a single and a three-run home run
- Jack Balcer continued to be a steady force at the top of the lineup, going 2-5 with a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After both teams were held scoreless in the first inning, Messiah scored the first run of the day in the top of the second after a solo shot to left field. Jack Balcer would even the score in the bottom of the third with an RBI single to center field. Messiah would respond immediately, taking advantage of Widener mistakes to take a 2-1 lead. The Falcons offense then exploded in the top of the fifth inning as they put up five runs to take a 7-1 lead.
- The Pride were unfazed, striking back immediately in the bottom of the fifth as Kevin Bukowski smashed a three-run home to left center to cut into the Messiah lead. Sean Burke followed that up with a two-run blast of his own to bring the Messiah lead within one. After a scoreless sixth, the Falcons added on to their lead with a two-run home run to make the score 9-6. Messiah would add on two more insurance runs in the top of the ninth to put the Pride in an 11-6 hole. Brendan Raven was able to get ahold of one in the bottom of the ninth, sending it over the left center wall but the Pride were unable to rally and would lose by a final score of 11-7.
