Women’s Lacrosse Falls to #8 York on Hot Afternoon

Polacek records her 100th career save

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Women's Lacrosse falls in conference game to York after a first quarter slump.
The 18-6 loss moves the Pride to 7-8 in the regular season and 3-2 in MAC Commonwealth play.

BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride began their 60-minute battle with a strong defensive focus after Clark Trowbridge put Widener on the board with a goal at 12:14, assisted by Chloe Mingioni, making it 2-1. However, York quickly responded, scoring nine unanswered goals for the rest of the quarter, despite several draw control wins and a caused turnover by Maddie Phillips. By the end of the first, Widener found themselves trailing 11-1
  • Coming out of the break, Jessica Mantz scored at 9:42, with Mingioni providing the assist once again. Then, with 36 seconds remaining in the half, Trowbridge found the net once more, this time off a pass from Jarliah Ferko. Although York managed two goals of their own in the quarter, Widener held their own with a score of 14-3.
  • Opening the second half,  Mingioni netted an unassisted goal at 12:34. Claire Lynch forced a turnover to keep the attacking Spartans quit until 9:46. A ground ball pickup by Phillips led to another goal from Mingioni, with just 27 seconds left on the clock. The Spartans were ahead 17-5 as the quarter came to a close while Alyssa Ruggiero and Phillips ended with a caused turnover.
  • Chloe Mingioni completed her hat trick with a goal at the 1-minute mark to close out the scoring. The Pride's defense was strong, as Lynch, Ciana Suydam, and Trowbridge each forced turnovers, helping to limit York to just one goal in the last 15 minutes. The Spartans ultimately secured the victory with a final score of 18-6.
