Pitching Staff Dominates in Baseball’s 2-0 Win Over Hood

FREDERICK, MD. – Widener Baseball's pitching staff delivered a stellar performance against the Hood College Blazers to give the Pride the win in game one of the series.

The Pride improved to 17-16 on the season and 9-7 in the MAC Commonwealth.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Brendan Raven had a stellar performance, going 3-4 with three singles and an RBI.
  • Matt Koblos played a crucial role in today's game, going 1-4 and driving in a run.
  • Trae Sanders twirled another gem, tossing 7.0 shutout innings while only allowing six hits and striking out five.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride scored the first run of the series in the top of the first inning as Ryan Bauerle led off the game with a single before Brendan Raven drove him in with a single of his own. After the first inning, the Pride offense struggled to get anything going, but it did not matter because Trae Sanders was untouchable on the mound, not allowing the Blazers to bet anything going.
  • Widener was able to add on an insurance run in the top of the sixth as Kevin Bukowski drove a double down the line before Matt Koblos drove him in to make the score 2-0. Those runs were all Widener needed today as Trae Sanders went seven scoreless before Caleb Horner and Ethan Lytle came in to finish it off and give the Pride the win in game one of the series.
UP NEXT
The Pride will finish their series against Hood on Saturday, April 19th with a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12:00pm.
