FREDERICK, Md. - Widener Softball sees their four-game win streak snapped with losses to conference opponent the Blazers of Hood College on the road.Â
The Pride fall to 13-20 on the season and 3-9 in conference play.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONEÂ

Widener jumped on the board early with a productive first inning. After Caityln Katchur reached base and Katelyn Tong walked, Sam McCarthy drove in a run with a groundout and Elizabeth Carney followed with an RBI single to give the Pride a 2–0 lead. In the second, Tong doubled home a run to extend the lead to 3–0. However, Hood quickly responded with a big second inning, plating eight runs to flip the game dramatically. Widener trailed 8–3 heading into the third.Â

The Pride were held scoreless the rest of the way while Hood added two more runs in the third and tacked on another two in the fourth. Despite hits from Kaelin Kuester and Carney, Widener couldn't chip away at the deficit. Hallie Wiener entered in relief and tossed a clean fourth inning, but the game was ultimately called after five frames due to the run rule. Widener fell by a final score of 12–3.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWOÂ

Widener was held quiet through the first three innings, with only scattered baserunners reaching. Meanwhile, Hood struck for three runs in the first and added another three in the second, putting the Pride in an early 6–0 hole. Despite a double from Kuester and a hit from Tong, Widener couldn't convert early chances into runs. Katchur worked into the fourth inning on the mound, but Hood tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to stretch the deficit to 8–0.Â

The Pride finally got on the board in the top of the fourth thanks to a big swing from Paris Balilonis, who crushed a two-run home run to left after Alyssa Gomez reached on a walk. That trimmed the deficit to 8–2. Hood answered with one final run in the fifth to make it 9–2. Widener went down in order in the sixth, ending the game in six innings due to the run-ahead rule. The final score was 9–2 in favor of Hood.Â
