HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONEÂ
- The first inning would go slow for the Pride, as errors would see the Blue Jays take an early 1-0 lead. Elizabethtown would go hitless to start the second inning, but Sam McCarthy's double to right field would give Widener their first hit of the game. McCarthy would be left on base however, as the Pride would still trail by a run after two. The Blue Jays would catch fire, turning in a four-run inning to take a 0-5 lead going into the bottom of the third; and with Widener not recording a hit the lead score would remain the same after three innings. Elizabethtown would have another strong inning in the fourth, as they would score six runs to take a 0-11 lead over Widener. Â
- Samantha McHugh would put the Pride on the board, sending a home run past left field to give the team their first run of the game. Katelyn Tong would breathe life into the Pride, hitting a grand slam to keep the game going and close the lead to 5-11. The fifth inning would come and go without a score, but Widener would make the most of their at-bat in the sixth. Caitlyn Katchur would show good eyes on a walk to force a player home, and RBI singles by Tong and Kaelin Kuester would send two runners home. To cap off the inning, McCarthy would hit the second grand slam of the game, sending the team dugout into an uproar as the Pride would storm back to a 12-11 lead. Amanda Danz and Widener's fielding would close the seventh inning only allowing one hit, as the Pride would take the spectacular 12-11 comeback win.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWOÂ
- Both teams would go without a hit in the first inning, with the Blue Jays not securing a run in the second. The Pride would get on the board in the bottom of the second, as Taylor Bell's discipline on the plate would see her draw a walk to force a score. A Widener fly-out would cause another runner to score, as the team would take a 2-0 lead. Elizabethtown would respond with an RBI double to cut the lead to 2-1, and the score would remain heading into the bottom of the fourth.Â
- The Blue Jays would tie up the score on a ground out and followed with a single-run homer to take a 2-3 lead in the top of the fifth inning. Elizabeth Carney would respond with a one-score moon shot of her own, tying the game again at 3 apiece. In the sixth inning, Elizabethtown would score on a fly out, taking the lead by one, but Katelyn Tong's scorching bat continues with a 3RBI double followed by Sam McHugh's single RBI as the Pride would lead 7-4 heading into the final inning. Needing three runs to continue the game, the Blue Jays would do exactly that, forcing extra innings with a 7-7 tie after seven innings. Unfortunately, the Pride would allow five runs to start the eighth inning. Fortunately, it didn't matter. McHugh, McCarthy, and Alyssa Gomez would all hit RBIs, with Carney scoring starting on second base to cut the Blue Jay's lead to one. Paris Balilonis' ground out would lead to an run for McCarthy, tying up the game. Taylor Bell would be the hero of the game, as her single RBI would finish a six score eighth inning, winning the game for the Pride.Â
