FREDERICK, Md. – Three fourth quarter goals bring Widener Men's Lacrosse to a close defeat against Hood on the road.
The 10-8 loss moves the Pride to 3-10 in the regular season and 2-1 in the MAC Commonwealth.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Luke Shimko scored a hat trick with seven shots on goal.
- Six would see a caused turnover on defense.
- Cole Blum went 6-of-12 on faceoffs while Matthew Shingle went 4-of-10.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride would open the 60 minutes of play with two quick shots from Matt Buckley and Nicholas Knepp. Shimko saw his first goal of the game at 11:57 to answer a Blazers goal as Matthew Marino assisted. Mike Kal'I would give the Pride a 2-1 lead at 9:54 with a Samuel Haverstrom. The defense dug in for a handful of Blazers shots as Billie would make a couple saves. The quarter would end with the Pride down 4-2.
- The game turned into a defensive standoff for the majority of the second as the Blazers would keep sending shots Billie's way. The Pride defense would force a 20-second clock violation while Shimko, Liam Drake, and Bryant Maits would put the offensive pressure on. Shimko ended the Pride's goal drought with an unassisted goal at 4:23 as the Pride headed into halftime down 7-3.
- The third quarter opened with a Shingle faceoff win allowing Buckley to find the back of the cage on an unassisted goal to make the score 7-4. The Pride defense would again force a 20-second clock violation before Kal'i scored a man-up goal off a Buckley pass at 7:24. Tyler Eahart and Brian Young each saw a caused turnover while Billie made another save to end the third down 10-5.
- The final 15 minutes of play would belong to the Pride as the defense held and the offense would begin their run. The third 20-second clock violation for the Blazers would hit the stat lines as Shimko's third would fall at 8:34. Out of a Widener timeout, Knepp would score an unassisted goal at 1:18. Blum won a faceoff and snagged the ground ball before Buckley sent a shot wide. The Blazers called a timeout but Maits would cut the deficit to two on a Knepp assist at 0:22 left. The Pride would end with a 10-8 loss on the road.
