CHESTER, Pa – Widener Baseball started off its Florida trip with two impressive wins over the Albertus Magnus Falcons.
The Pride improve to 4-5 on the season.
BY THE NUMBERS GAME 1
- Jack Balcer had was unstoppable, going 4-for-4 with a home run, a double, and two RBIs, while also drawing a hit-by-pitch.
- Sean Burke delivered a powerful performance, going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs.
- Tyler Harper contributed with two hits, including a double, and two RBIs while also drawing a walk.
- Trae Sanders pitched a solid six innings, striking out seven batters and allowing only three earned runs to secure the win.
BY THE NUMBERS GAME 2
- Kevin Bukowski was productive at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, two runs scored, a walk, and two stolen bases.
- Jon Aman was crucial to the offense in this game, going 2-for-2 with a triple, scoring three runs, drawing a walk, and stealing two bases.
- Chris McKenna had a day to remember, finishing 1-3 with his first career home run.
- Aidan O'Brien was dominant out of the bullpen, tossing 4.1 innings while striking out 4 and only allowing 1 earned run.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
- The Pride sent a message right away as Jack Balcer sent the first pitch of the day over the right field wall to give Widener the early lead. After a quiet second inning, the Pride added another run in the third before thanks to a Brendan Raven double. Albertus Magnus scored their first runs of the day in the bottom of the third, putting up three to take the lead. Widener answered in the top of the fourth scoring two runs on a Ryan Bauerle Walk and a Sean Burke single.
- Jon Aman singled in the top of the 5th to give the Pride another run. Widener broke the game wide open in the top of the 6th. A Sean Burke homerun, a Tyler Harper single, and a Jack Balcer double gave Widener four runs in the frame. Trae Sanders continued to dominate, not allowing the Falcons to score another run. Widener added on four more runs in the top of the 7th before Alex Mihos shut the door giving the Pride a 14-3 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
- Albertus Magnus scored the first run of the game in the top of the first, but Widener responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs. Jack Balcer led off the inning with a double and Kevin Bukowski and Chris Mckenna were able to come through and push the runners across home plate. In the second inning, Bukowski and Sean Burke put good swings on the ball leading to a pair of doubles, giving the Pride three more runs. The Falcons chipped away at the lead in the top of the third, scoring two runs to cut the widener lead down to three. Widener put up another run in the bottom of the inning bringing the score to 7-3.
- The Falcons scratched across a run in the top of the fourth. Their pitching settled in and was able to hold Widener's lineup to zero for the first time. Aidan O'Brien found his groove in the top of the 5th, getting the Falcons to go down in order. Widener would tack on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with a Chris Mckenna solo home run. O'Brien continued to cruise through the Albertus Magnus lineup and would finish out the game without allowing another run.
