Widener Offense Unable to Get Going Against Alvernia

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Baseball was Unable to get anything going offensively in two losses to the Alvernia University Golden Wolves.

The Pride are now 13-12 on the season and 5-4 in the MAC Commonwealth.

BY THE NUMBERS GAME 1
  • Ryan Bauerle had a solid day, going 2-3 with two singles.
  • Sean Curran went 5.0 innings, allowing four hits and four earned runs.
  • Jon Aman went 1-3 with a single.
BY THE NUMBERS GAME 2
  • Kevin Bukowski went 1-2 with a clutch RBI double.
  • Aidan O'Brien delivered a strong relief out, going 3.1 innings pitched only allowing two hits.
  • Nick Nigro went 1-3 hitting an RBI double late in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
  • The Golden Wolves struck first in game one, stringing together four singles and a couple walks to take a commanding 4-0 lead. Curran settled in after his early struggles, not allowing any more runs through the fifth inning. Garrett Moyer would come in relief for Curran and get out of a jam to keep the Alvernia lead to four.
  • Ryan Bauerle singled up the middle to get things started for the Pride in the bottom of the seventh. Unfortunately, the Pride were unable to get a rally going and lose game two by a final score of 4-0
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
  • Alvernia once again delivered the first blow, connecting on back-to-back doubles to drive in three runs in the top of the first inning. The Pride threatened in the bottom of the second, loading up the bases with two outs but were unable to get any across. The Pride were finally able to put a run on the board in the bottom of third as Jon Aman got things started with a doubled and Kevin Bukowski drove him in with a triple deep into right center.
  • Widener added another run in the bottom of the fifth after Ryan Bauerle made hard contact with a ball, forcing an Alvernia mistake. The Golden Wolves added on to their lead in the top of the sixth with a single up the middle to dive in two more, making the score 5-2. Nick Nigo responded with a two out RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to chip away at the Golden Wolves lead. The Pride were unable to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh and would lose the series finale 5-3.
UP NEXT
The Pride will stay in Chester for an out-of-conference match up against Neumann University on Wednesday, April 2nd. First pitch is set for 3:30pm.
